Customer reviews for whirlpool 3.6 cu. ft. Traditional Top Load Washer with H2Low™ wash system

whirlpool 3.6 cu. ft. Traditional Top Load Washer with H2Low™ wash system

This high-efficiency washer uses just the right amount of water. The H2Low™ wash system with Auto Load Sensing determines exactly how much water is needed, saving resources and delivering a deeper clean. This ENERGY STAR® qualified model also features the Care Control temperature management system, which ensures the water is warm enough to dissolve detergents but not so hot that it leads to shrinking or color bleeding. Twelve automatic cycles, four water temperatures, and four water levels give you exact control over your laundry. And the EcoBoost™ option uses a lower temperature and higher spin speed to reduce overall energy use.

The worst washer!

Well, I have not had this washer one month and the repair man has been twice. The washer does NOT balance itself. It does NOT wash the powder or liquid out of your clothes. It does not spin completely every time, you have to set it again to drain/spin. I have ruined so many clothes because the liquid detergent stained the clothes and powder detergent is left in clumps on the clohes. The washer does not put enough water in the barrel to wash clothes properly and you cannot wash but a very small amount of clothes. DO NOT BUY THIS WASHER!!!!!!

Cannot believe the negative comments
Posted March 12, 2012
I too bought this washer before reading any reviews. Before using my washer the first time, I read the entire owner's manuel. It did take some getting use to as far as loading the washer. I have had no problem with clothes coming out clean. The washer is so quiet. Because my clothes are spun so dry, I have decreased the drying time. I have noticed it seems to vibrate a little more than I thought it would on the spin cycle. After using a level, my husband tried to adjust the screw out front legs. He was unable to adjust one even though he tried repeatedly but was able to get it balanced. I hope I don't regret buying this washer because right now I love it!

Well I purchased the washer and while I was waiting to have it delivered started reading reviews which made me a little nervous. I read the owners manual BEFORE doing my first load of clothes. This machine is definitely different than my old agitator style machine. However, my clothes are clean, not tangled and since I am now using HE detergent, I am using less of it. I can't wait to get my first water bill in a couple of weeks. I have NO problems with this new washer.

Great features but extremely poor washing performance!

We had this washer for one week and began the process of an exchange due to clothes not getting clean. After many loads and trials and error, we found that only the bulky cycle was useful for any load. A very disappointing product, and we luckily managed to exchange to a more traditional Whirlpool with much greater success. Too little water is used, in our opinion, to adequately wash clothes.

Very good washer!

I am satisfied with the performance of this Whirlpool HE laundry washer. It is a good product and I am very picky. All you need to do is follow directions, do not overload it, and you will be very pleased. This is nothing like the older models. I have washed comforters, pillows, men work clothes, casual and delicates. Also, great on saving cost on water bill. So far,I am pleased!

Read! Your Use and Care Guide Instructions. Very easy to use after reading and understanding how this washer works. Works great on all wash cycles. Your may hear sounds and noises that are differenet from your old washer, but its not bad at all.. My wife and I are happy with this washer. The water and energy savings are awesome too..

Don't purchase this product

Wish I would have read reviews before purchasing this washer. It is loud, slow, my clothes are not clean, and now I'm sitting here watching the "lid locked" button flash. It's not locked and won't work as long as it's flashing!!! DO NOT purchase his product! Very disappointed as my previous Whirlpool washer was great!!

good buy for the money
Posted March 5, 2012
this washer performs quite well for a washer in its price range ($650). If you have been using, as we were, a washer made in the 1980s, the technology now in place will seem strange. The washer has no agitator, making its capacity quite large. It a;so goes thru a strange beginning in which it weighs the clothes, locks the lid three times, then uses only the neccesary water to clean the clothes. once it starts washing, it needs no attention. one thing we were not told at the store was that it uses a "downy rinse ball" to dispense the rinse. we have to buy that on its own. the policy at the best buy store here is that if an item costs more than $429.00, it will be delivered free. this is a good washer--it just doesn't cost a $1,00.00

Great bang for the buck!

Please don't listen the all of the bad reviews about this washer written by people who did not read the manual. If it is loaded properly and the correct setting is selected, this washer works tremendously. The bad reviews are all from people that tried to operate this washer like an older model that has a tumbler. You can't just throw clothes in and hit start with this machine. In terms of value, this is the best washer on the market for someone that does not do huge loads of laundry. I live by myself so the 3.6 cubic feet of capacity is plenty for me. If you have a family or like to do one massive load with all of your clothes, consider a larger capacity model within the same line.

Piece of Junk

Still under the one year warranty, this unit has been serviced twice by the repair man through Whirlpool. Both times, the transmission has been replaced and the unit still seems to act funny.
While the unit promises to handle large loads based on the design of the tub, the control settings, and the lack of the aggetator, it seems like the guts of the unit, the motor and the transmission, aren't worthy of the less efficient, less expensive units. Highly disappointed. My energy and water savings have been totally consummed by the use of a laundry mat and time away from work waiting for service.

Waste of modern technology
Posted July 4, 2012
We agree with most of the other coments. This machine is "JUNK", a waste of technology. Large tub, that you can't fill. Only about half if you want them to get wet. Clothes just don't come clean. Wash each load 2 or 3 times might get them acceptable. When the clothes spin out, sometimes they get tangled and you must re-position and spin again. Also, when they do spin out, you can see rings of dirt on the clothes before they are moved. We bought this machine not too long before my wife had a major surgery for blader cancer. The time period to return it passed long before we discovered just how poor it performs. If it were possible to trade it for a plain top loader with agitator and reasonable size tub, it would be gone in a heart beat. Very sorry we bought this machine. We will not make the same mistake twice.

Energy efficient garbage

I just purchased this machine and will be returning it ASAP. I have a large family and needed something to fit our budget but of a decent size. The water never gets hot. The "hot" setting is really just warm. The "warm" setting is really just cold. On most clothing, warm and cold may work fine, BUT when someone is sick or I have underwear and towels to wash, I want the water to be HOT. Also when I purchased this machine, the salesman said the new machines are only made to last 5 years... really??? What good are energy efficient ratings when this and thousands of other machines like it will end up in a landfill in a few years? And what good are features like water temperature knobs when the temperature is cold? Who cares? AND YES, I read the manual from cover to cover.
Pros: Large Capacity

I don't know if this makes any difference and you did say you read the manual. We weren't getting hot water, not even warm either. And we turned off the ecoboost the hot water was actually hot.
Just a side note if you still have the washer.

Already Broken after Only 1-2 months!

Was working great the first week I used it. After about a month, my roommates told me that it was starting to act funny (lid won't unlock after finishing a load, it won't start up, etc). Didn't experience it for myself until this past week when I tried to do my laundry. Washer wouldn't start after another load. Would have to wait a few hours before it'd start up. Now it won't start at all. Just a real hassle after spending $500+ on this machine for it to not even last me a year. My old washer lasted me 10+ years! I really want to return it because it's considered junk to me now, but it's past the 30-day return policy time frame at the store I bought it from. Scheduled for maintenance this coming weekend since it's obviously still under 1-year warranty. Hoping maintenance guy will be able to fix it or else I'm going to have an angry fit.

Cons: Expensive

Don't buy.

I haven't had the machine 3 months and the motor is already gone. I only do an average of 6 loads of laundry a week. The last Whirlpool I had lasted 16 years. Wish I had read the reviews before I purchased. If I could return it, I would. The store where I purchased it only takes returns for 7 days. Very disappointed.

It doesn't clean my clothes!

I've read the manual and I didn't expect it to be like my older washer. Directions are followed to the letter. I just want clean clothes, especially since it takes so so long to go through a wash cycle. They say clothes come out dry because they spin so much, but the parts that come out dry are on the inside of the load right next to damp spots and you can tell they have never been touched by water. I would not recommend this nor would I purchase it again. My only suggestion if you already have this is to use one of the wash choices that does not have the "spray" spin cycle. I also use the extra rinse selection sometimes just so I can increase the odds of the clothes having been exposed to water.

Cons: Cleanability

AWESOME!

This machine was a gift from my Dad after my last washer suffered an "injury" inflicted by me.
First off, I live in a single wide mobile home, I am not on city water but on a well (water conservation is a must!). My last washer shook my house like an earthquake and used way too much water.
I also wanted a front loading washer for my comforters and such but decided on trying a top loading, non-agitator one instead. This is the perfect solution!
My first suggestion upon using this machine is to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! And switch to HE laundry detergent (that is a must have! I use the Tide Pods, 1 pod per load or two on bulky items)
This is not your "old style/school" washer!
My first load was 12 pairs of jeans (I have 2 boys). On my old washer I would have set the water level at medium or large. This washer provided the water at just above the clothes. I'd say it used 25% of the water. I was pleasantly surprised. I did it on the Regular cycle and it took exactly 45 minutes from beginning to end (closing of the lid to putting it in the dryer), no extra rinse or ecoboost option. I believe that it takes a few minutes for the washer to sense the load amount and fill the water accordingly. (Have patience people). As for the noise level, much quieter than my last washer. The installers from Lowe's balanced it, and tested the water hoses before leaving (however, they did mix up the hoses on the back of the machine and were happy to come out the next day to rectify their mistake). This washer doesn't shake my house on the spin cycle! (this is a nice bonus in my book!).
My next item to wash was a bulky item, a down alternative feather bed. In my old washer it barely fit due to the agitator and never really got fully clean. I had a stain on it for over a month, put it in this washer with two Tide pods and that stain is GONE!! Yes, on the bulky items setting it does take longer to wash, I believe because of the setting and it takes a bit more to wash a large item. This washer also cleaned my 88'X90' Queen size down alternative comforter as well (not too mention it fit inside of the machine!)
Overall, I'm very happy with my gift, happy that I can conserve water (the first day of using this machine I did 5 loads and never got low or ran out of water. I once did 6 Super loads on my old washer and ran out of water!), and happy that I can finally use the Energy saving cycle on my dryer (no I don't have the matching dryer) for it's intended use, to save on my electric bill!
Pros: Durable, Cleaning Performance, Energy Savings, Large Capacity, Convenient Features, Quiet

I was wondering why my clothes come out of the washing machine feeling like they are still dry in places and don't seem to get my clothes as clean as my old standard Whirlpool. I don't really care for my new washing machine. Is there something that I am not doing right? Or is my washing machine defective?

Waste of money

This machine lasted about 1 week past warranty before starting to emit a high pitched screeching sound while washing. It is still washing but I look for it to fail at any time. May be transmission. The sound is so piercing that we have to close the laundry room door; otherwise it will drive you batty!

I hate this high efficiency washer

For the reviewers that say the bad reviews were because we didn't read the manual -- NOT SO! I have read the manual, followed the instructions for spreading clothes around leaving middle clear, and use HE detergent. If clothes are stained (basil pesto on a shirt, cantaloup pulp on a shirt) they DO NOT come clean. I have clothes that come out not even wet -- the washer did not fill appropriately with water. Why, oh why, did they stop making the old fashioned wringer machines and put out this stuff. Yes, I can fit a bulky comforter in the washing machine, when I couldn't in my old wringer machine, but how often do I do that? It's the every day clothes that I want clean.

Reviews un called for

My wife bought this washer one day while i was at work. After registering it online and reading some reviews i was scared to death.
BUT. I read the manual and have had no problems working with this washer. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS and use the proper detergents!
We have washed about ten loads and to this point we could not be more pleased with our purchase.
Pros: Innovative, Easy to Use, Performance, Energy Savings
Yes, I recommend this product

Inconsistent

I bought this machine about six months ago. I didn't read the manual carefully at first. I was putting the detergent on top of the clothes, and I wasn't being carefully about putting the clothes around the edge of the basin. My clothes were coming out very linty and were rarely clean.
So then I read the manual carefully. I started putting the detergent in first. And carefully putting the clothes around the outside edge, leaving the center open as the manual recommends. Sometimes the machine does a great job. Lately, all my colored cotton polo shirts come out showing stains. Sometimes I'm not sure the stains were there when I put them in the wash.
Lately a new problem has developed: the machine starts its sensing routine, the red light comes on to lock the top. But then the lock light turns off. The sensing process stops. Sometimes I have unplugged the unit to see if it needs a reset. Also, reorganized the load, or rocked the unit. Don't buy it.
Pros: Innovative, Energy Savings, Sound Level
Cons: Cleanability
No, I do not recommend this product

Horrible Machine!

I bought this last year and it is a piece of junk! Saturday it just decided not to turn on anymore (yes I checked the outlet and fuse). I have been the only one using the machine over the past year and should not break down this quickly. Over course, I am one month outside this warranty. If you purchased this machine purchase the extended warranty, YOU WILL HAVE ISSUES! Luckily when the matching dryer broke down it was still under warranty.
When the machine is working properly it takes over an hour to do a load, longer than the dryer. The positive reviews below have to be new users. Keep looking for another machine!
Pros: Energy Efficiency
Cons: Quality, Performance
No, I do not recommend this product
